Vincent, a down-at-the-heels French cab driver, desperately in need of cash for child support is intrigued when Thelma charters his cab for a trip to Crete. As they travel, talk and flirt, they become friends but the situation grows complicated when Vincent discovers that Thelma is transgender. Will Vincent decide to explore a country that he's never been to with her ?

Follows John Kennedy Toole's mother, the Pulitzer Prize winning author of A Confederacy of Dunces. Toole died by suicide before finding a home for his masterpiece, and his mother Thelma, made it her life's mission.

In the wake of a divorce, Thelma now lives alone with her teenage daughter Irene. Somewhat overwhelmed by the situation (and initially often hiding in bed), the two women embark on new experiences. The contours of new identities and a firmer footing as individuals gradually emerge.

In South Africa, Vincent has spent 5 years in jail for having unintentionally killed a man. Now, he just wants to forget it, finds a job in a garage and starts a relationship with his boss's daughter, Agnes. Not far away, his ex-girlfriend, now married to a rich man, tries to seduce him again. As he resists, she murders her husband and tries to put the blame on Vincent.

The story was born from the pen of debutante Callie Khouri: Thelma, married to a macho man, and Louise, an independent waitress, go on a girls' getaway that turns into a runaway when the latter, during a stopover in a bar, shoots a man who was trying to rape her friend. But at the dawn of the 1990s, screens were dominated by testosterone-fueled opuses, and Hollywood studios were reluctant to entrust the steering wheel to a female duo. Seduced by the script, forwarded by his associate Mimi Polk, Ridley Scott agreed to produce the film and decided, against all odds, to direct it himself. Under the British director's watch, the two accidental outlaws, fabulously portrayed by Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis, flee across the vastness of the Far West on an emancipatory epic that sees them defy male oppression and reveal themselves to themselves.

Nearly every major element of making the 1991 film Thelma & Louise is examined here from how the script was written to how Ridley Scott got involved, to how the big tanker explosion was pulled off.
